Acupuncture in Hendersonville, NC

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient healing practice that originated in China and involves the gentle placement of thin, sterile needles at specific points on the body. Treatments are tailored to the individual and may be used to address specific concerns, promote relaxation, and support overall health and well-being.

At Elemental Wellness, acupuncture is about more than addressing a single symptom. Each treatment considers the whole person and is designed to support your individual needs.

A Personalized Approach

No two people are exactly alike, and acupuncture care shouldn’t be either.

Your care begins with taking the time to understand what brings you in, how you’re feeling, and what you’d like to work toward. Using the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, your treatment is tailored to your individual needs and can evolve as those needs change.

How Acupuncture Can Help

People seek acupuncture for many different reasons, from managing everyday discomfort to supporting stress, sleep, digestion, and overall wellness.

Pain & Tension

Acupuncture may help with back and neck pain, headaches, joint discomfort, muscle soreness, and tension.

Stress & Anxiety

Acupuncture may support relaxation and help manage everyday stress, anxiety, and tension.

Sleep

Treatment may support relaxation and healthy sleep patterns, including difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or feeling rested.

Digestive Health

Acupuncture may be used to support digestive wellness and concerns such as bloating, nausea, and digestive discomfort.

Women’s Health

Acupuncture can complement a whole-person approach to menstrual health, fertility, and hormonal changes.

Overall Wellness

Acupuncture can also be incorporated into an ongoing wellness routine to support relaxation, balance, and overall well-being.

What to Expect During Treatment

Whether acupuncture is completely new to you or already part of your wellness routine, we want you to feel comfortable, informed, and at ease throughout your visit.

Your Initial Appointment

Your first appointment begins with a conversation about your health history, current concerns, lifestyle, and goals. You’ll have time to ask questions and discuss anything you’re unsure or nervous about before treatment begins.

Your treatment will then be personalized based on your individual needs. Very thin, sterile, single-use acupuncture needles are gently placed at selected points on the body. Once the needles are in place, you’ll have time to rest comfortably and relax.

Follow-Up Appointments

Follow-up visits begin with a brief check-in about how you’ve been feeling and any changes you’ve noticed since your previous treatment.

Your acupuncture treatment can then be adjusted based on your progress, current symptoms, and goals. Because your needs can change over time, each session is individualized rather than following the exact same treatment each visit.

What Should I Wear?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing whenever possible. Clothing that can easily be adjusted above the elbows and knees is especially helpful.

Depending on the areas being treated, you may be asked to adjust or remove certain clothing. Your comfort and privacy will always be respected, and appropriate draping will be used when necessary.

What Does Acupuncture Feel Like?

Acupuncture needles are extremely thin and very different from the needles used for injections or blood draws. You may briefly feel a small pinch as a needle is placed, or sensations such as tingling, warmth, heaviness, or pressure. Many people find the treatment relaxing.

Clean & Sterile Needles

Your safety is a priority. Acupuncture treatments use sterile, single-use, disposable needles. Each needle is used once and safely discarded after your treatment.

Other Traditional Chinese Medicine Techniques

Depending on your individual needs, your treatment may include additional Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques alongside acupuncture.

Moxibustion (Moxa)

Moxibustion uses the warmth generated by burning moxa, a traditional herbal preparation made from mugwort, near specific areas or acupuncture points. When appropriate, it may be incorporated into your treatment to provide gentle, targeted warmth.

Cupping

Cupping uses specialized cups placed on the skin to create suction. It may be incorporated into treatment for concerns such as muscle tension and discomfort. Temporary circular marks or discoloration can occur and typically fade over time.

Questions Are Always Welcome

It’s completely normal to have questions about acupuncture, especially before your first treatment. We want you to understand your care and feel comfortable throughout the process, so you’re always encouraged to ask questions before, during, or after your appointment.
